Most executives say their IT departments are keeping up with business needs. But a significant number admit their processes are outdated and inefficient. This could hinder emerging tech adoption like AI.

Over 80% of executives report IT can support the business speedily. This central role shows improved alignment since the 1990s. However, 45% say IT processes don’t run optimally.  

Legacy systems and complexity obstruct visibility into processes. So optimization is challenging despite decades trying.

Emerging Tech Demands Better Processes

AI and automation require solid foundations. But 68% fear existing inefficiencies will constrain implementation.

Key processes for modernization include:

Streamlining these will harness AI's promise per 81% of IT leaders.

Optimize for Growth, Cost and Flexibility

Subpar processes reduce productivity and waste money per 61% and 41% respectively.

Conversely, 51% foresee revenue growth with optimization. Others predict cost cuts (46%) and flexibility (41%).

So, although 55% of processes function fine, the 45% needing fixes impact the bottom line. And even those running well could improve.
