IBM and Meta have partnered with over 50 global organizations to launch the AI Alliance. The goal of the alliance is to promote responsible and transparent artificial intelligence innovation. Members of the alliance include major tech companies, universities, nonprofits and government agencies.
The AI Alliance will focus on deploying resources to enable responsible AI development, fostering an AI accelerator ecosystem, developing benchmarks to evaluate AI models, advancing an open AI model ecosystem, providing AI education and collaborating with existing AI initiatives.
"The AI Alliance wants AI technologies to be used responsibly and for good in a way that is transparent and broadly accessible," said Anthony Annunziata, director of AI Open Innovation at IBM Research.
The alliance could benefit open source collaboration and governance in AI according to Ion Stoica, co-founder and president of Anyscale. "Open source will enable us to develop models that can be inspected and certified by public and transparent processes, unlike proprietary models," Stoica said.
Founding members of the AI Alliance include AMD, Anyscale, Dell, Hugging Face, Intel, Imperial College London, NSF, Notre Dame, ServiceNow, Sony, Stability AI, Yale and the University of Tokyo.
